The Year of Living in the Land of Contentment and Enough

I have a not in real life friend - you know, one of those people you have never met in real life but have known online for years and years who knows more about you than some of your real life friends - who every year on her birthday picks one thing that she is going to work on for the year. My birthday is coming up so I am going to join her. This year is going to be the year of Living in the Land of Contentment and Enough. Or something silly like that.

With our recent bout of unemployment, I got scared. Sure, we were lucky and because of Marty's skill set and super awesomeness, it was a bout and not an occupation, but still. I have always tried to Living in the Land of Contentment and Enough, but sometimes it isn't easy. Sometimes the gimmes take hold and I want what everyone else has. That is how we ended up with our TV. We had a perfectly good TV (if by perfectly good I mean a crappy picture and small enough that you missed part of the picture) TV, but I decided that we had to be like everyone else and get a giant blah, blah, blah.

I have decided that in order to feel secure we need to bump our emergency fund up some more, so that will be a priority.

I have been thinking about what my thing will be for the year for a while now, but when I saw this blog post  and this blog post -  complete with snazzy title - I knew that I was on the right track.

If you would like to join me, pick something that you would like to spend the year working on in your life. It can be anything, big or small. Anything that you want to spend the year taking baby steps toward improving will work. Have fun deciding on something!

oh yeah--being without a "steady income" can certainly get your attention.
